09Jun12 - We are heading to Utah today! We will be staying at Hill AFB in Ogden, Utah for 4 days.

We are in a holding pattern for leaving Idaho.... seems we woke up to rain and wind. We are going to wait it out before getting on the road. The weather improved so headed out and arrived at Hill AFB around 4PM. It was a day of mixed weather events; rain, dust storms, cloudy, more rain and plenty of wind! We were happy to finally arrive and be off the road. After setting up we are now just chilling out.

10Jun12 - Today we drove out to Salt Lake, pretty scenery but the dry part of the river bed smelled!! We actually walked on it out to the water edge. This particular spot was called Saltair which in its "heyday" must have been a booming place with a fantastic building full of concessions, shops, beach with swimming, bands and shows according to photos. Saltair was built in 1893 and considered the CONEY ISLAND OF THE WEST. Afterwards we continued on to a marina on the Salt Lake, which was not as smelly! It had a beach "Silver Sands" the sand was not silver and the beach was barely big enough for the boat that was sitting there. Large marina and pretty scenery though.

11Jun12 - It seems today will be spent getting new tires on the car, yesterday we noticed one was cut. We have been on the verge of needing them replaced so it seems Utah is the place to have it done. Tires were installed 4 hours and $850 later we are headed to downtown Ogden. What an amazingly, charming and pretty town with historic homes and several really old building to include Union Station. The current Union Station was the second station built in 1924 in Spanish Colonial Revival on the footprint of the original one. We spent over two hours in Union Station and were pleased to find the entire station had been reused for four museums with rooms for other activities also. It houses the Utah State Train M;useum, a Miniature train display, John M. Browning Firearms museum and the Browning-Kimball Car Museum all the while maintaining the original station. We ended the day with dinner at the Little Taste of Britain for fish and chips. Good food and interesting decor.

12Jun12 - This morning we took our phones and mifi to Verizon for tower and software updates. It seems even though Verizon does not admit it the service is really slow in Hill AFB, Utah. First time in our travels we have experienced this problem. Hopefully Wyoming tomorrow will be better service area.

We toured the Hill Aerospace Museum this afternoon. Very nice museum with some great exhibits. Gene found several aircraft he was familiar with when he served, many memories!
