Day 6
Had a great morning with my roommates from Hong Kong. Took a long walk along the river, taking pictures and checking out the town along the way. Then, went to the market to stock up on some food for the next few days (there is a kitchen at the hostel)... Found some great bread, bruschetta brie, salad......and of course, a nice selection of Swiss chocolate. Holy crap--- the market had an ENTIRE isle of chocolate bars. A whole isle! I would bring some home for everyone, but I don't think they will last the trip....oh darn, I will have to eat them all;)
....and then, for the best part of the day: Skydiving the Swiss Alps! Hopped on a bus with a group of people from Singapore and headed to the dz. They were all excited for their tandems. I kept telling them how awesome it was gonna be. I rented a 150 (smallest thing they had) and hoped on the porter. The plane ride up to altitude = heavenly. The exit = whooohoooo! I actually scared the pilot when I exited, as he told me when we got down. I guess skydivers don't 'whooohoooo' here;) lol. The free fall = mouth-dropping (I could not believe that I was looking straight ahead at the Alps all around me). The canopy ride = breathtaking. Literally, I was shaking when I landed. Incredible place in the world to be, if only for about 6 minutes;)
...spent the whole afternoon at the dz waiting for the group to jump. My Singapore friends were so excited. When we were taking, I asked them how they knew each other ---10 friends traveling together--that's a lot! They said they were in the same class. I said 'oh cool, what do ya'll study?'... Their reply, "we study medicine [in Singapore] what.?! "me too! [in the Caribbean] ...Needless to say, we were best buds after that and had lots to talk about -school, anatomy, classes, studying.... So cool. Over there, they start med-school right after high school and it is 5 years. Geez, would've saved me a lot time (7years!)
Got back to the hostel and cooked some dinner, which included a Swiss staple, rosti. It was like hash brown potatoes and half of it stuck to the pan I cooked it in, but hey, I tried it. Spent the next 2 hours with maps and such planning an amazing 8 hour hike in the mountains for the next day. ...
