Imperial Valley Sand Dunes, right past Yuma, AZ

California rest area

Point Loma, CA

Point Loma

Left Tucson early Tues. morning. Boy, we thought there was nothing to see across TX, but there is absolutely nada from Tucson to San Diego! Had a picnic lunch at a rest stop, and the temp was probably close to 100. Surrounded by sand as we crossed the Imperial Sand Dunes, it looked more like the Sahara Desert than Arizona/CA. Good place to train marines for desert survival! After crossing the Gila Mt. range, things began to return to normal. Arriving in San Diego was like standing under a cool attic fan. Temp was around 68, heavenly! We went grocery shopping and settled in at a Travel Lodge on Hotel Circle, a street along the interstate with every name-brand hotel you can think of. We drove out to Point Loma-a beautiful sea-side village, with quaint houses and flowers everywhere. The view there is magnificent!
