Eagle and gull supervising fish cleaning station

Enjoying Kachemak Bay from our campsite

What a beautiful day! As we started towards Homer, the sun was shining and the views of the mountains were breathtaking. Holiday traffic was light driving through Anchorage, and soon we were at the “Turnagain Arm” - which HAS to be rated as one of the country’s most beautiful drives! The one thing we’ve made sure to do on each of our AK trips was to take at least one drive around the Arm. We have seen beluga whales there before, but not so today. There were literally hundreds of Alaskans dip netting along the arm. They had all the parking spaces used up or we would have stopped and watched that for a while.

As we got closer to Homer, we got a short rain storm, but the rest of the day was just cloudy and cool. We toured the spit, watched people cleaning the fish they’d brought in, purchased our tickets for tomorrow’s big excursion, and checked into the Cast Away Park. This RV Park has beautiful views, electric and wifi for $25. For $60 we could have stayed at the park across the road that also has water, but their view is certainly no better than ours! We’ve spent the last hour watching out our bedroom window at the otters playing in the water. 277 miles today - besides our otters, the only wildlife we saw was a bald eagle who appeared to be supervising the fish cleaning station!
