Day 14: Happy Birthday Adam. Today we packed up and set off to do the Mereenie Loop back to Alice Springs. The pass cost $5.50 for permission to travel through Aboriginal land. We left Kings Canyon Resort at 8.30am. The Mereenie Loop road is approx.. 200km of dirt and some corrugation but all in all not too bad. The first stop was Palm Valley which is just out of Hermannsburg. The road in to Palm Valley was 22km 4WD only which we were not sure how far we could tow the van. After 10km we decided to unhook the van on the side of the track and proceed with the car only. Lucky we did as the last 4km was impossible to drag a van through (even a Kedron). Our children will not believe what we drove through, it was 4WD at its best. The Valley was lovely and we did the 2km loop walk to take in the spectacular scenery. It was really strange to see palm trees out here, it was truly an oasis. The drive took longer than expected so we arrived at Alice Springs at 5.15pm to check-in after going through the car wash station with the van for a second time.
