I once read that if you’ve never experienced the Icefields Parkway then you’ve never really seen the Rockies. And I believe that’s so true. Today was an awesome drive and that’s pretty much all I can say, I’ve used up all my adjectives. There are no words to describe the beauty of this incredible area between Lake Louise and Jasper. And certainly no picture can tell the true story.
We finally saw our first bear of this trip. We saw lots of mountain goats and a few young elk today but no caribou. We would really love to see one. Just one! The weather has been so beautiful, we couldn’t ask for any better. But from all the journals I’ve read I’m pretty sure we’ll get lots of rain in Alaska.
We stopped in Jasper for lunch. The summer crowds haven’t arrived yet and the winter people are gone so it was very quiet. From here on out it will be completely new territory for us. From Jasper we drove on to Hinton where tomorrow we’ll take CA 40 to Grand Prairie. There we’ll pick up CA 43 to Dawson Creek and the beginning of the Alaska Highway. We’re finally on the way!
