Manitou Springs is just out of Colorado Springs. Its one of those quaint little places where, like Kuranda, every second person seems to have a Bachelor of Arts. A feral town where there are lots of coffee shops and junky boutique type places (lots of 'made in China' stuff). There are seven springs of nice tasting carbonated water which is supposed to cure lots of ills. It doesn't seem to have done much to common sense around the town as like, Kuranda they try and charge a fortune for their junky stuff. The whole place is a bit of a tourist trap but nice to visit.

On the outskirts of Manitou Springs there is the 'world famous' Cog Railway. Nope, I had never heard of it before either. The carriage goes up several miles to Pikes Peak which is a bit over 14000 feet high. As you can imagine it was a little cool at minus 6 C (wind chill dropped it about another 6 degrees) so we didn't stay outside for long. This place is really something else considering the highest peak in Australia is a little over 7000 feet.
