It was a short and lovely 140 mile drive from Mayport to Hunter Army Airfield near Savannah, GA. Having driven on a Sunday the office was closed when we arrived, so on instruction when we made the reservation, we found a spot and settled in for the near 2 week visit. We want to visit downtown Old Savannah and especially the famous river front. Usually in cities with this much history there are hidden places to visit and we want see some of those. We're always surprised with the finding of hidden and little known tourist spots.
The location of this FAMCAMP is terrific. Just 100 yards inside a back gate, are 16 newly updated sites with utility power posts, concrete pads, fireplace rings, barbeques and the forest. We got lucky with one of the best and most secluded spots. For us who watch birds this one is great, we picked up two new birds for our life list. Yea!
