The Singapore-Paris leg gave us our first sample of the A380. The biggest change I noticed was how much quieter it was in the cabin. On approach we seemed to just glide in with no engine noise at all - just like coming in in a fox bat, hahah.
On arrival in Paris they had trouble either with the doors or the air-bridge and we spent about 10-15 mins waiting. We were always going to be a bit tight on our connection to Madrid. We ran across the terminals, jumped the queues at immigration and at baggage check., more running to the departure lounge. The boards said the flight was closed but we still managed to get on. Public holiday in Paris today and there were less than 20 people on the flight, so there was plenty of time to talk to the flight attendants. One of them sat with us and gave us a few suggestions on places we could go when we return to France, always good to get some local knowledge.
When we arrived in Madrid, we were not really that surprised to find that our luggage hadn’t made the connection. Went to see the luggage people and they could tell us our luggage would be on the next flight and would be sent to our hotel. We weren’t the only ones with the same problem.
Anyhow, found a public phone, called the hotel to ask about their shuttle, and we were picked up about 15 mins later. The hotel is close to the airport, and by the time we arrived it was about 32 hours since we had left our house, so we decided to try and get a couple of hours shuteye.
*Our luggage turned up about 2pm so all is good.
In the afternoon, we went for a walk around the area. Things were pretty quiet because of the public holiday. There was a very pleasent square with a water fountain only a couple of blocks from our hotel, with a number of cafes and restauants around it.
Went to a local place for dinner. The sign in the window said “We don’t speak much English but we promise to not laugh at your Spanish” - seemed a likely spot. And true to their word they didn't laugh at my Spanish and we managed to have a good dinner.
