Today was our last day in Palm Springs. The kids were a bit sad about that and kept joking around that they would hide so we couldn’t leave or that they would sneak Melissa on the plane with us. Underneath all the joking I do think they were genuinely sad about the fact that we were leaving although I know that they are really missing everyone back home.
Anyway , when Melisa and I woke up we spent the morning just talking but finally we both agreed that we needed to get on the ball. The kids were still asleep so it was hard to really get going and it was really hot but we eventually got all the kids up and ourselves dressed and headed out for one last day on the town =)
We went to buy some last minute things at Winco. I found the nut spread or whatever it is that my friend Carrie back in Sweden wanted me to bring home for her. The kids were looking around for something to spend the last of their money on but it was actually only Patric who found something. He had decided that he was going to buy an I-pod touch too. Eric had bought one in Oregon and loves it so Patric wanted one too.
With all our shopping done it was time to get on home and finish packing. It was so hot so the kids went into Melissa’s room which happens to be the coolest room in the house, to watch TV while they left me with the hard work of getting everything to fit in our suitcases. I had to pack and re-pack everything a few times. Poor Shawn was my weighing guy. He would stand on the scale holding a suitcase just to make sure I was within the allowed weight limit on all our bags. Finally we were all done. Everything was packed and weighed and we were ready to hit the road.
It was around 7.30 pm when we were done saying bye to Shawn and Mayhem , had all the luggage in the back of the truck, had the kids all buckled in, had the address all “On Stared” and started to roll. It was really sad to be leaving Palm Springs. We kept thinking of all the things we still wanted to see and do but we just ran out of time. While we drove past the windmills the old cliché popped into my head, “We’re not saying good-bye, we’re saying see you later” ….
We arrived at Aunt Vivian’s house around 10 pm and pretty much just got ready for bed. We are all tired and we all have a busy day ahead of us tomorrow. Melissa will be taking an 8 hour drive to Reno and we are going to get up at the crack of dawn and be bright eyed and bushy tailed for our day at Disneyland.
