A short post before we leave Thailand.
We spent three days helping at IHF orphanage (International Humanity Foundation, where we spent a month in Kenya a few years ago). IHF has an orphanage near Chiang Rai, three in Indonesia as well as the Nakuru one in Kenya.
Bally (British), Jim (American), Fernando (Spanish) run the Chiang Rai center which has 16 children living there. We helped to tidy up the yard, seal two concrete tanks (one for collecting rain water from the roof, one for a fish tank), connected the spouting to the tank and cleaned out the unused swimming pool ready for cat fish. These will provide a source of food once they get bigger.
It is almost the end of the long school holidays and the children are arriving back from their hilltribe villages (Lahu and Akha) ready for school in a week.
We had a 12 hour bus ride to bring us to Bangkok where we have stayed overnight and will fly to Myanmar (Burma) later today for a two week trip with Gecko Travel.
The temperatures have been around mid to high 30's with overnight lows of about 28 degrees, so we are splurging and sleeping in air conditioned rooms to ensure a good nights sleep.
After Myanmar, we return to Bangkok for a night, fly to Amsterdam the next day, overnight in Amsterdam, then fly to Marrakech, Morocco where we have a few days ourselves before joining an Intrepid Travel trip.
