|Left the estancia at 6am and got as far as the main gate before we had our first stop, more fumes coming into the truck. All in all we had 13 stops for attempted repairs before 3pm and two more later. It was supposed to be a 10 hour day but we were on the truck from 8am to11.30pm!!! But when we got to our camp site in Tafi del Valle Yana was waiting for us. Very happy to see both her and Anki. Anki was waiting with a fire going she had expected us some hours earlier and was starting to worry that we'd never make it. Would have liked to see it in the daylight - did see about half dozen guys leaving a, 'pub' on horseback. It is a temperate valley sub-tropical- at 2000m. since it was quite late I decided to take the easy option and get a room - nothing special just a bed in a hut but didn't have to put the tent up and had lots of room for my bag. Cold showers again so being in a room made even that more palatable. Easy drive down the other side of the mountain range to Quilmes - a pre Hispanic settlement AD 1000 -the Spanish took 100 years to subdue them and then marched 2000 to BA -they walked for a year and only 200 arrived and were immediately made slaves.Did some sight seeing and chased a Llama around trying to get a decent close up photo but it was too fast for me and took off into the desert. The rest of the drive was through wine country stopped at Cafayte for tastings and lunch. Then on through some spectacular canyons up on the roof of the truck. One of the 'caves' was huge and had an acoustic ceiling so that at certain spots your voice would carry - a group of other tourists ere there singing. Can't describe it but think Grande Canyon. Arrived Salta at around 7pm and in a basic hotel.
