2012 Taylor Southern States Trip travel blog

4/24/2012 Today is Fort Worth Day. Nick was able to get off early today so he got to go with us. Poor Manny had to go to school, sorry kid! Anyway, we headed to town. Our first stop was at the Texas Civil War Museum. We got there just as a bunch of school kids were in the gift shop so we went in to watch the movie while they cleared out. The museum was small, but very interesting. I had seen the war from the northern point of view, so seeing the southern side is quite different. Lots of memorabelia from the war to see. When we finished there we headed to the Tandy Leather store. They had a very interesting little museum mainly about a famous leatherworker, but it also had stuff from other people as well. Someday, I will as good as they are! (beleive that?) Of course, I couldn't get out of the store without buying something. Next we headed for the Stockyards. Bob rode and worked there when we was young. We got a quick bite to eat, then got to watch the "cattle drive" down the main drag. It was something to see those longhorns going down the street with all the people around. We checked out the whole area and went into one of the many museums. It was interesting to see pictures of how it used to be. It has changed drastically since Bob was there. The only bad part about the day, what is normally a one hour drive took us about two hours to get back "home". We stayed too long, it was rush hour, so we worked our gps overtime trying to find surface streets so we could stay off the croweded freeways! Once we got back to town, we picked up Manny and all went to dinner. We had a great time visiting with Missy, Nick and Manny and the rest of the family during our stay. Tomorrow we head out on our way.
