Bahamas Here We Come!....2011-2012 travel blog

The mangrove islands serve as bird santuaries.

This little green heron liked to fish on our dock.

This egret isn't afraid of people!

This is canal street. Nice shopping.

The green awning building is Jason's Corner Cafe.

The bouganvilla are so bright! They are so incredible that they don't...

Making our loop around town. Tom has found the Farmer's Market.

You are never to young to dance!

Hi All!

We stayed over at New Smyrna Beach, FL because of predicted severe storms. They didn't happen which is fine by me! We got a chance to walk around the ICW part of town. They have a nice shopping area a few blocks from the marina. The main street is Canal Street. There are two nice restaurants there...Jason's Corner Restaurant and Maloney's Oyster Bar. We took advantage of the cheaper prices now that we are back in the U.S. It was strange for the menu not to be pigeon peas and rice, mac and cheese, and fried conch, shrimp or chicken! In the islands a hamburger can cost $12 to $18 and that is without the fries!

The Bahamas don't have many birds. It's strange to see so many here in Florida. The birds use the mangrove islands for roosting. The one in the picture was just behind our boat. It had pelicans, egrets, herons and others on it.

There was a little green heron that hung out at our dock. He used the dock lines to get low to the water so that he could catch his fish. He didn't like to be disturbed and would let out a loud squawk when you walked by. The green heron is one of my favorite birds.

There was also a egret who was on the dock watching a girl fishing. He didn't pay any attention to us. His full attention was on how he was going to steal the fish when the girl put it in her bucket!

We took a walk around town and they had a Farmer's Market. We picked up some yummy looking vegetables. They had a few singers under a tent and this little girl was having a great time dancing with her grandmother!

The New Smyrna Beach Marina was very nice. It would definitely come here again!

We are planning to go to Palm Coast tomorrow if weather permits.

Hope all is well with you and yours. Thanks for stopping by!
