Lisa and Darryl's Excellent Adventure on the 'First Light' travel blog

Darryl arrived in Point Pleasant, New Jersey on a not so pleasant day. The weather was cold and windy with lows in the mid 30's. He braved the frigid weather and began the daunting task of unloading the 8 foot tall box. After working 10 to 12 hours a day for a solid week, the box was empty, the boat had new engine parts, a beautiful galley in the salon, 2 new tables, an amazing swim step, running water, new instruments....and lots more.

Lisa arrived and Darryl realized that sleeping in a boat which was slanted on blocks might not be the best arrangement. SO, he surprised her with a stay at an adorable B and B - The Bentley Inn - which was just one block from the beach. It was not only romantic, but warm, cozy and just perfect!

Lisa brought warmer weather from California and within 2 days it had warmed up to 75 degrees! That made working outside a lot more fun. We were able to put on a new rub rail, we got the new name on the back, and did LOTS and LOTS more cleaning...... after all we had 12 years of dirt to get rid of. Darryl put the solar panel on top of the bridge while Lisa held her breath and bit her nails. The good news is that we can now run all the appliances under our own power!

We ended each day completely exhausted. Once the boat was hauled into the water, we were able to sleep aboard. I use the term sleep lightly......The cabin is about the size of a doormat and trying to sleep in it is quite a project. First of all, you have to back in (one at a time). If you both sleep on your sides, you can almost fit,but if one person is bold enough to sleep on their back or stomach.....they will definitely squish the other person. This is a detail that we are working on.......

We enjoyed our time in Point Pleasant....joined the 40/40 club at the ARK and made some new friends. Although we never left New Jersey, we had a terrific adventure and we plan to put another location on our map in the next journal entry!
