~ Heading west ~ Thornton-Ericsson family vacation to the USA 2012 travel blog

April 18

Guess what we are doing right now? Well I guess I’ll tell you because you would never be able to guess. I’m sitting by the pool at our hotel in Ventura California watching Patric, Eric and Julia play in the pool. Our hotel or motel as Patric keeps reminding me is really nice. It’s a chain called La Quinta Inn. Our room is really nice, there is a nice pool area with a pool and a hot tub and the best thing of all is the Ice machine =)

But I think I’m getting ahead of myself here. Our day started at the crack of dawn this morning back at Auntie Vicki and Uncle Ivan’s house in Oregon. We had to get up really early to get ready and leave for the airport. I was a little worried that the kids were going to be hard to wake up and be a little grumpy but they weren’t and we left for the airport pretty much on time.

It didn’t take very long to get to the airport in Medford. When we got there everything went pretty fast and smooth. I guess the only thing that annoyed me was the fact that one of our suitcases was too heavy so I had to pay an extra fee for that one.

Then came the hard part, saying good bye. I hate saying good bye because living so far apart you really never know when we are going to see each other again. We hugged and kissed and hugged and kissed again. Uncle I van and Aunt Vickie walked with us to the security check point and then Julia started crying, she didn’t want to leave, poor thing. By the time it was our turn to go through security we were all crying. Like I said we hate saying good bye.

When we got through security we sat down by our gate and just breathed for a minute and then it was time to start boarding. When we saw the airplane that was going to take us from Oregon to California we were a little chocked and started laughing. The plane was tiny with propellers! We took some pictures of the plane and as we were boarding prayed that there wasn’t going to be any turbulence because if there was we were really going to feel it! Anyway, we boarded the plane and found our spots, Julia and Eric to the right and Patric and me to the left. Eric wanted me to put his carry on above his seat and when I got up to help him with that I bumped my head and we all started laughing again =)

We did have a really good flight. It was smooth sailing the entire way. When we arrived at LAX we saw that the weather was absolutely beautiful. We got off the plane and got all our luggage with no problems atall. When we were done I called Melissa and she told me she was going to be about an hour late due to heavy traffic. That was ok though. We took our luggage with us and walked across the street to a little restaurant and had brunch then we walked back to the airport terminal and waited for Melissa.

While we were waiting we saw some commotion going on. There were security people a guy with a film camera, a sound guy some kind of director and more people who just looked busy. They were filming to girls putting luggage into the back of a black car. I just had to go ask what was going on and was informed that they were filming a reality series called the real L Word. I have heard of the L Word but not the reality series. Darn, I wish it would have been one of the series we follow =)

When Melissa came we were so happy to see her. We piled into the truck and started making our way to Ventura to visit my dad. On the way we stopped to pick up a cake and a card since today is his Birthday (It also happens to be my good friend Rosi’s birthday so happy birthday to you too, Rosi). Eric picked out a rainbow swirly cake and then we continued on our way to the Thornton house.

When we got there my dad and Uncle John were happy to see us. My dad and I went to get lunch from Jack in the box and then we just hung out for a while visiting. The kids played in the back yard until it was time for cake. We sang Happy birthday and the kids helped my dad blow out his birthday candles.

By this time the kids were anxious to get to the hotel to go swimming so we left, got checked in and are now soaking up the sunshine, well Melissa and I are while the kids are soaking up the pool water. I almost think my kids are part fish …. =)
