Hi All,
Well, just spent our first full day in Luang Prabang. Woke up this morning about 3:30am to the Monks ringing the temple bells - as well, lots of sounds from locals still out celebrating Laos New Years. New Year's celebrations last a number of days. Many shops etc are closed during this time. Having difficulties finding a place to rent us motorbikes.
Today we took a couple of "peddle" bikes from the hotel and took off exploring to town. The temp at 9:00am was 30c...yikes, what will the rest of the day be like? - it's now 37c at 5:30pm. Road along the mighty Mekong and Khan rivers. The kids(and adults) are out in full force with the festivities. They line the streets with huge garbage cans full of water- large water guns, hoses and what ever they can get their hands on to get the passersby wet. The first two hours were fun and you didn't mind getting cooled off as it was so hot, but after that- it wasn't just the clothes they were getting wet- It was my hair- YIKES. I didn't like that one bit. Ok, for those who don't know me that well- no one messes with my hair! Some of them also put a dye of sorts in the water- we got home covered in orange and green. Had to throw the only white tank top in the gabage(will have to shop to replace it).
Our hotel is just lovely. Only been open about 10 months. 24 rooms, of which only 12 are occupied. Staff is very helpful, but many don't speak English that well, so ordering is sometimes a bit of challenge. Tomorrow we have hired a longtail boat to take us up the Mekong to the Pak Ou Caves. Looking forward to that. Sorry guys, have not really gotten into the picture taking thing yet. So have not attached very exciting photos yet. Off to have a bit of pre-dinner nap. The heat really knackers a person. Hope all is well with everyone back home. Talk to you again soon.! M&T
