As we head out of Las Vegas tomorrow, we thought it would be fun to put together a conglomeration of visits with friends while we stayed at Nellis Air Force Base, Desert Eagle FAMCamp this past month. We arrived with the winds in our faces and will be leaving with the same it seems coupled with rain showers. Actually this driest of American cities has shown us a considerable amount of rain (and wind) during our visit – or believe the Las Vegans call this rain! Being from Upstate NY, we call this humidity and Jerry being from LA (Lower Alabama) tells me they call this “mist”! Haha – still WET and ugly out there!
We already posted our initial get togethers with John and Hanny and then Gary and Gail, this is other get togethers during our stay. The first outing was with John and Hanny at the Yard House in the Town Square Mall located on South Las Vegas Blvd – what a fun place! There are over 250+ beers on tap and we managed to see some of the kegs in a large room off the entrance to the restaurant. But the most impressive thing was to see the large pipes all over the ceiling where the beer is siphoned off to the taps from these kegs. And not only an interesting place to sit and people-watch; the food was GREAT too!
Because we so thoroughly enjoyed meeting Gail and Gary at the Brio Tuscan for lunch earlier in our stay, when it came time to visit Carol (from our visit in South Haven, MI and years in Germany together) and meeting her new friend Bill – the Brio Tuscan immediately came to mind for several reasons! First, excellent food and atmosphere, two, was located in the same Town Square and saw it when we met John and Hanny, and three, was near where Bill recently purchased a new condo! And none of us were disappointed – another wonderful meal. Really enjoyed meeting Bill and of course it was fun to visit with Carol again!
We were so pleased to hear from Gail and Gary after their return from visiting grandkids in San Francisco with an invite to join them in their home for dinner. Another wonderful time spent with them! They found a gorgeous home with the help of John when he was doing real estate, located in the Anthem area of Henderson. After a tour of their beautiful home and fun shared memories we all experienced with some of their mementoes around their home from life in Germany, we drove up to see where they played bocce ball (and were even club champions one year), and see their club house complete with the most gorgeous views of downtown Las Vegas. And then the wonderful meal they served – all Greek in theme and done to perfection – oh the dessert wasn’t necessarily Greek, but it still was done to perfection!
And another get together was back at John and Hanny’s with Gail and Gary this time too! This meal was one we all eagerly anticipated and savored – rouladen, spaetzle and red cabbage – ooohlala; so delicious. We got there a bit earlier so we could see Hanny make the rouladen and then watched John cook the spaetzle – all fabulous! Another fun evening spent with good friends sharing wonderful memories of our lives and life in Germany several years ago. Lots of funny stories and lots of laughter all night! The night ended all too quickly as was evidenced by the late hour we all remained!
And our last visit was back with John and Hanny this evening before our departure tomorrow morning to enjoy a pizza together! And yet another wonderful evening spent together. We headed out a bit early due to the rains as well as needing to hook-up the Jeep and desire for an early get away in the morning.
We changed our plans from our previous drive up Hwy 93 (to Rachel) and decided to by-pass that route and staying in Ely and would instead take I-15 north through Utah and would drive the 450 miles to Hill Air Force Base where we’ll stay through Monday morning and our departure to Idaho Falls, ID for the month.
Till the next time . . .
