Awoke to no rain. Once Pepper and I got out of the dense redwoods on our walk we actually saw blue sky! Was lovely with swift running streams into the Big Sur River.
Had a 9:00 work appointment so went back to the “office” aka The Ripplewood Café. Such a good menu and portions that we had promised ourselves breakfast there. Bob had scrambled eggs, about 5 slices of bacon and two of the biggest English muffins I have ever seen. Me, the “no carb” lady, had the hand cut oatmeal and brown sugar. Was a nice treat.
Headed down the coast and had to stop at Nepenthe, one of our 1970’s haunts. Only the café was open and the fog was so thick you could not see the ocean. We were surprised to see so much construction on Highway 1 because of landslides. Many wonderful turnouts.
At one turnout we saw some people( mid age teachers from the central valley on spring break) with another Roadtrek. We were like magnets looking to talk about our rigs. They had trouble with the water pump because of hard water and at 10,000 miles they assured us a problem with the “turbo resonator”, whatever that is!. They had to replace the oven/microwave twice even though they didn’t use it. They also had a great looking Labrador. Gave us good advice about pet friendly parks and even kennels in the western USA. Good input!
Weather was in/out of rain the entire way to Oceano (near Pismo Beach). Oceano is a beautiful beach we did not know. Is very interesting as it is one of the very few (only?) ATV beaches with camping on the sand. Took a nice long walk on the beach towards the beach camping, There are actually speed limit signs on the sand with cars (not many) driving to the sites. Wonder how this passed the Coastal Commission?
Our camp is near but not on the beach. Very pleasant, clean and 10 minute showers for 4 quarters. We have the quarters and will be on them tomorrow first thing!
For those of you who care….dinner is marinated Jamaican Jerk Burgers with Ancho Chipolte Sauce, potato salad and cole slaw. 2002 Ridge Nervo zinfandel.
Reading for a bit after dinner, to bed at 9:00 and nearly 10 hours of sleep until 7:00am!
Are we having fun? Absolutely! And so to bed!
