I slept well on the train last night, waking up at 7, and we pulled into the station at 7:10. We declined the tourist trap buses to Krabi (250B) and instead took the local route, a bus to Surat Thani center, and then another from there to Krabi (only 150B). From that bus station, we then took a song-thaew to the dock, and then a long-tail boat out to the Railay area. We are staying at Tonsai Beach, the backpacker/climber area. No AC (sad) but a large, clean room, which we found on our second try. We were settled in by around 3pm.
My first glimpse of the beauty of this place was while on the song-thaew. We rounded a turn in the road, and looming ahead was an amazing, featured cliff. The colors are so vibrant and the rock beautiful. It helped that in the bus load of climbers, everyone was excited.
Not long after that, we saw water as well-- the Andaman Sea, with rock formations jutting out of the blue. We had an even better view from the boat!
After dropping our bags at the guesthouse (and stepping under the cold shower) we explored the beach. I am VERY happy here. The water is beautiful, the sand in nice, and then there's the rock! So much of it and so impressive! I can't wait to climb it tomorrow!
