After making the tough call of wether to travel north in Chile towards the desert region or south towards the lake region, the boarder of Patagonia (we really wanted to go to Patagonia but that will have to wait for another trip after we win the lottery) we decided to go south.
After an overnight bus ride from Valparaiso, we disembarked from the bus in a beautiful, Lake Tahoe-like, cute little town. Oh was it gorgeous, the air was fresh, the scenery lush. "We are going to love this place," we thought. We set out to find our hostel (yes, we were finally biting the bullet and going to do the hostel thing!). Pleasantly meandering through the town, we found the road but something was off. The addresses did not match what we were looking for. No problem we thought, this place is beautiful, has a burrito shop (the first we had seen in all of Argentina and Chile) and it is a nice day. Long story short, wrong town. Back on the LOCAL bus now (our bus was long gone) for the 30 minute ride to Pucon.
Disembark #2: A beautiful, Lake Tahoe-like, cute little town. Oh it was gorgeous, the air was fresh, the scenery lush, and on the horizon a stunning, active volcano dominated the landscape. We found our hostel and immediately were blown away by the number of activities that were offered in the region. You could do ANYTHING!!! - bike ridding (mountain and road), visit thermal pools, kayak, white water raft and other random water rafting things, 4x4 off-roading, horse back riding, zip lines, fishing, helicopter rides, rappelling, visit caves, hike to waterfalls, climb mountains and volcanoes, bars, eat great food, gamble in the local casino and more. Our first thought, we need more days and lots more money.
The next couple days we just played and had a blast in one of the most beautiful places we have ever been. We even looked at a few properties!
