We headed from Brisbane up the sunshine coast towards Caloundra where we planned to spend a couple of days with teh friends we met in NZ, namely Cheryl and Deborah. We planned to get there about 5 but in the end we managed to get there just after 12 and so we had a good walk around Caloundra which is a really nice town on the beach. It was a bit windy but we still managed to get a cup of tea made in the back of the van and to finish off our provisions, great planning that. There is a fantastic boardwalk there and so we walked right along in one direction then retraced our steps and ended up in a bar having a beer and watching a bit of MTV with hits from the 80's, just like being at home really. By then it was time to head up to Cheryl's house and so we drove up to her lovely house on teh hills overlooking the town and after a big hug we were made to feel so at home, the house was ours to use as our own and it was so laid back and relaxing right from the start. We told Cheryl what we had been doing since we last saw each other in NZ and then Steve her hubby came home and we had a fantastic roast dinner and a few beers and wine chatting into the early evening. We sat out on the raised decking which was mostly our home for the next 3 nights as it was such a fab location. Deborah came round to say hi, she had a Japanese student staying with her and he came as well although he didn't speak much English, he certainly did a lot of nodding and smiling :) Next day we were invited for breakfast round at Deborah's and so Cheryl dropped us off while she went shopping for the BBQ that night. We had a terrific fry up and a good laugh while the poor student was trying to use a knife and fork to eat his sausages, shouldn't laugh but its so unusual to see people struggle like that, i suppose its the same as us with chopsticks. Deborah dropped us back at Cheryl's And as she wasn't home, she simply went downstairs and came into the front room to open the front door, great she could almost be an honorary scouser. Cheryl has a big white parrot called Wilson, a real character who takes great pleasure in screeching if you don't give him some attention but he was great fun. He loves to have his head scratched and his back and chats a bit but you have to watch his beak and claws as I found out later. Cheryl and Steve's son Sean and his girlfriend Sarah came round and we had a chat and a laugh on the balcony but they had to travel back to Brisbane that night so they missed the BBQ. Cheryl had enough food for Africa as she usually does and so there was lots of steak, chicken and prawns as well as salad and the usual beers and wine, a great night. We talked about food as we always seem to do and we said we would do some cooking tomorrow so we had a plan to go out to the markets and do some shopping. Cheryl is a great cook and wanted to learn some recipes from us so we went to the farmers market and bout all teh stuff to do some moussaka, veal pasta sauce and ratatouille. After doing all teh shopping we set out cooking for about 2 hours which was great and she made notes all the time so she could make the recipes herself later on. We had all the food at night and Deborah came around to help us eat it and we took a couple of photo's as you can see. It was a shame that we had to leave to be honest we could have stayed for days :) I had a great swim in teh pool and splashed Ang to bits. The airport run the next day was going to be a right affair as we had to drop the van off in teh south of Brisbane and then get to the airport, Cheryl sorted it out and organised a taxi for us to pick us up from the van drop off, Jerry was right on time, to teh minute and took us in pure luxury to the airport the best $45 dollars we have spent so far and 3 of the best day we have spent in our friends company, slushy but true x
