Bonsoir!

Well, we left Paris with a tear in our eye as we took the TGV (Train a Grande Vitesse) for a two and a half hour ride to Avignon. Upon arrival, we were greeted by our guide and bus driver as we quickly meandered towards the "Pont du Gard". This monumental feat of architecture was created by the Romans to bring safe drinking water from the mountains to the lower lying villages. This was really quite a site to behold and the United Nations has declared it a world heritage site under the direction of UNESCO. If your son or daughter has any thoughts for a future in engineering, this certainly would have inspired them!

A quick return to Avignon and a view of the most famous of bridges, le Pont d'Avignon!!!! A late afternoon tour of the Palais des Papes (Popes Palaces) where the papacy held power for a brief period of time. Quite an interesting representation of the power of the Catholic Church of the time.

Checked in to the hotel and a nice walk to our restaurant. REALLY good and authentic cuisine consisting of dishes that included olives, eggplant and lamb..............a little taste of the region!

Tomorrow brings another day!

Bonsoir,

Marc

p.s. unfortunately, I am still unable to load pictures!
