For the 2nd morning in a row we had the kids up at the crack of dawn. We are promising them a sleep-in tomorrow. Next to Paris, Salzburg ( and Innsbruck) are close 2nds. The architecture / buildings are beautiful. There are many narrow cobbled streets and lane ways, side walk cafe's, lakes and rivers.....all at the foot of snow capped mountains. Pretty as a picture / postcard!
Being in Europe in early spring this time, we notice that the charming street cafe's all offer blankets over the chairs to keep their patrons warm. The Euro is good value and food is cheaper than at home. we haven't done any shopping as yet ( Michael groans as we slow past shops) but the girls and I are insisting on some shop browsing in Innsbruck.
I made a good effort with speaking French in Paris, but my German is letting me down. French flows more naturally to me - or maybe I am just tired of trying to think of foreign words and the novelty is wearing off. Many people speak english well - so it's not a problem.
The Sound of Music tour was a big hit. The tour provided views and information about Salzburg itself, in addition to film locations from the movie and interesting anecdotes about the making of the film and the original story behind it. The guide and the bus driver were dressed in original national dress and were very entertaining. I, unashamedly, sang the loudest on the bus - figuring I would never see any of them ever again.
Still lots more to come - we are having a fantastic time!
