Another of the must do's crossed off the list as today I went up the coast to surf. I picked a great weekend to learn as the weather resembled a good summers day back in England and the conditions were perfect. Also I was fortunate enough to get one-on-one coaching as there were only two of us learning, a real bonus in itself.
I had an absolutely fantastic time and managed to progress through the different boards quite quickly ending up on a 'mini mal' a fibreglass surfboard. This was the the first day of a weekend course so today was about learning the ropes, the correct stance and how to pick a good wave. The sea was quite cold and I got to know the seabed more times than not from falling off, but occassionally I caught a great wave which took me to shore. The feeling of actually riding the wave was brilliant and reminded me a bit of our first diving experience for the pure thrill. By the end of the day I was shattered but had definetly picked up the surfing bug and couldn't wait until tomorrow.
In the evening the staff from the surf school had a party and a great barbecue was had with plenty of beers to wash it down with. The rest of the night was spent talking to fellow learners and staff about the 'rides of their lives' aboard a surfboard. A great night to a end a great day and the best thing was knowing that tomorrow I would be out on the sea again hopefully riding waves.
