Last one!

We finally had a chance to visit the local visitors center and a do a quick drive through downtown Yuma. The visitor center is located in the Yuma Quartermaster Depot State Historic Park, formerly Yuma Crossing State Historic Park. From 1864, the Yuma Depot supplied all forts in present-day Arizona, as well as large parts of New Mexico and Colorado. Yuma served as the gateway to the new Republic (later State) of California, as it was one of the few natural spots where travelers could cross the otherwise very wide Colorado River. It was a fun place to visit, a very nice surprise for a visitors center. (See photos)

Historic Downtown Yuma is often used for street fairs and musical events throughout the year. The City of Yuma Parks and Recreation operates and maintains the Yuma Art Center, which features the 650 seat Historic Yuma Theatre. It is located in the heart of the city. We loved the beautiful trees, fountains and courtyards. It is easy to see why so many snowbirds spend the winter in Yuma.

We also saw a retail store for the locally grown dates offering date milkshakes and much more. We were told that is a "must do" for the area. We will definitely go back later for more shopping and exploring. I will let the photos tell the rest of the story.
