Hi All,
We all had a great time at Batemans Bay with a few running repairs again done and a trip to Mogo so the girls could do some of the shopping type stuff. On the way we saw some beautiful beaches.
After Batemans Bay we moved to the far south coast of NSW to Merimbula where we did a bit of sightseeing at Bega including the Bega Cheese Factory and caught up with Anne’s brother and sister in law Dick and Sandra over coffee and lunch, it was beaut to catch up with them both and have a good chat.
Leaving NSW and entering Victoria we travelled through some pretty rugged bush and forest areas for our 1st “free camp” beside the Snowy River near Orbost. A lot of fun but a bit cold and very smelly as we had stopped beside a flooded cattle underpass which was full of water and what cows do naturally that ain’t milk. We moved on and stopped for initially one night but made it two at Traralgan in Gippsland. It is the heart of the Latrobe Valley with huge brown coal deposits in open cut mines that produce about three quarters of Victoria’s electricity from this valley. Really beautiful and great to see how you can blend industry with country and both live happily together.
Also built there is Australia’s only made aeroplane (now bought out by the Indians) being the Gippsaero GA8. It’s a single engine 7 seater and built as tough as nails predominately for the Aussie bush. Nearly 200 hundred have been produced with about half exported. They are also now producing a long gone model which was called the Nomad also Australian design and was very successful but so far none have flown. They will be about 12 to 14 seaters. Anyway we saw the factory so we were happy. We have flown twice in one of these aeroplanes both times in the outback.
Then on to Wilsons Promontory the 1st day being beautiful then second, breakie outside then the Victorian weather hit, bloody wet cold and windy ,so now doing this journal in the van with the air on heating. Tomorrow Philip Island for 3 nights. That is Fairy Penguin country.
So that’s all for now.
Love
