Who Needs the Self-Timer? We'll Just Hold the Camera

After hiking and sliding my way across the mountains of Central Switzerland I headed to Lucerne for a three-day visit with my good friends Daniel (Dani) and Madeleine who I had the pleasure of meeting on my overlanding trip in Africa.

Lucerne is a beautiful city of about 76,000 people located alongside a lake at the foot of the mountains. Dani and Madeleine showed me the town--we took a walking tour of the city, a boat tour of the lake and we visited an interesting museum on the history of the glaciers that once covered the area and carved out the landscape.

While Dani and Madeleine were working I also visited a local history museum located in the fortress of the nearby town of Zug. They had a special display dealing with a medieval sword that was found by a diver in Lake Zug in 2010. The exhibit dealt with the efforts to clean up and preserve the sword as well as with the scientific community's attempt to discover the history and ultimately the owner of the sword. Pretty interesting stuff for a guy who was just hunting for historical artifacts in the forests of Germany.
