TWENTY FIVE YEARS OF MARRIAGE!! What a huge blessing to wake up this morning in this primitive campground & be able to celebrate our anniversary. It was cold outside & so quiet & still. The sunrise on the mountain was brilliant outside our "bedroom window". Hot tea/coffee sure tasted good whilst we watched a helicopter deliver lumber up the mountainside from our parking lot.
We got underway and drove further south towards Queenstown seeing gorgeous vistas with every turn. Beautiful farmland with millions of sheep & cows. Tidy little farms & quaint cafe's & fruit stalls. (in the US, we call than fruit stands). Oh my, the fresh fruit displays were mouth watering just to look at! We bought several varieties & decided to have ice cream for lunch in true Littlestar tradition. They mixed it with fresh mixed berries & it was the BEST ever!!! As we consumed our ice cream, we wandered thru this amazing rose garden. Beds and beds full of every rose color & variety. The sweet smell was intoxicating. There were arches covered in blooms & benches. Heaven?
Next stop, Gibbston Winery up the road past Cromwell. We had a 3 cheese board waiting for our tour to begin. Ummm! On our tour of this small winery and learned all about how they made it, harvested & aged it. Every detail makes a difference. In "the cave" we saw 100's of barrels of wine & got to taste 4 of them. Really a fun experience.
As we drove thru this beautiful country, we listened to The Eagles, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, James Taylor.... Old guys for us old married types! Loved it!
Arrived in Queenstown & set up camp. This one is in the city and closer to amenities. Our spot was next to a babbling creek & under a huge, old willow tree. We made fish tacos & opened anniversary cards. It was the BEST anniversary yet. Well, we've decided every day is our anniversary on this trip! Love this place, love this man, love this life.
