March 4 to 5 Halong Bay
From Hanoi we took a 3 hour van ride to Halong Bay. On the way an old guy on a scooter randomly turned into the side of our van and crashed! Luckily he was ok! When we arrived we took a small boat out to our luxury Chinese Junk Boat called "Calypso Cruiser". It was awesome! There was 12 rooms but only 8 people on board! Our guide Khanh had called ahead and told them it was our honeymoon so they put flowers on the bed, a bottle of wine, and a honeymoon cake in our room!
The bay was beautiful! Picture a mountain range submerged in water. We took a tour of "The Amazing Cave" which was pretty cool but really crowded. Our guide kept us laughing saying he could see formations in the rocks.....Look a monkey! Look a Dragon! Look a face! Look a bird! But he had a good sense of humour when I asked him how much weed he had been smoking! We had a kayak tour through a cave and saw monkeys playing on the vines on the cliffs of the lime stone. The view from our boat was amazing on the first day as it was clear enough to see most of the limestone formations, while on the 2nd day it was foggy but that gave it a cool eerie look.
Back on the boat they fed us like kings! Each meal was at least 5 courses and was sooo good. We also had a cooking class making springrolls. After dinner we were given the choice of karaoke or squid fishing........hard as we tried no one caught any squid. The next day was relaxing heading back to shore sitting on the deck of the boat enjoying the view.
On our way back to Hanoi Ian saw another guy on a scooter get smoked by a truck!....Don't think we will be renter a scooter in Hanoi! Another weird thing we noticed was a lot of the rice paddies had grave yards in the middle of them....Ewwww!
