I traveled to Grenchen in order to visit Platit AG, the company that manufactures the industrial machines used by Swiss-Tek Coatings--my employer before I departed on my big adventure.
Grenchen is an industrial town with lots of tooling and manufacturing firms, many of which supply the major wrist watch manufacturers in the area. Rolex, Swatch and many others have plants nearby.
Grenchen is a rather plain city with a surprising number of empty storefronts on the main square. Solothurn, on the other hand, is a picturesque little town located just to the east. Its "Altstadt" is lined with beautiful baroque-style buildings and its alleys and passageways are buzzing with restaurants and pubs.
Solothurn is only a small town but is also the capital of a canton (province) by the same name.
