New Zealand South Island Motorhome Adventure travel blog

I woke at 6:25am and opened the curtains to see the beginnings of the sunrise over the mountains. It was so gorgeous and a privilege to be tucked up in bed and to watch its peaking. I woke Phil so that he could capture it on camera. We breakfasted and packed up quickly after successful tramps into the beech forest. Funny camera shot of dancing!

Finishing the trip through Arthur’s Pass was amazing as a farmer and his wife, not to mention his 3 dogs and 5-600 sheep were on the road. I took oodles of photos and had tears of amazement and joy as we meandered along the cliffs watching the sheep, dogs and various vehicles traverse the dangerous road and cliffs.

The day was enormous as we travelled about 280kms. We went through Castle Hill Village, Springfield where we stopped for a coffee, Methven to Geraldine. We ended up at Fairly, where we set up camp next to a pretty creek. We did do a walk that promised a river view, but were disappointed from that perspective. There were lots of vines and blackberries, good for a walk but not for the views. I did some washing. Phil BBQed the various things I prepared and an early night was sought after post card writing and book reading.
