Breakfast this morning was cereal, toast with peanut butter, and lots of coffee! Then we headed down to deck 1 to check out excursions for Puerto Limon. At the talk yesterday on ports of call, they recommended that we not walk around in Puerto Limon – the town hasn’t recovered from an earthquake in ’91 so there’s not a lot to see. The ship stops there because of the tropical rain forest excursions. Ralph and I looked at the options but needed to ascertain how difficult the trips would be. We selected the Rainforest Canopy and Zipline Adventure: “Glide through the treetops with this exhilarating adventure. 12 cables and 13 platforms stretched across the length of the rain forest as you witness some of the most spectacular views.”
Our next stop was the ship’s store where we purchased a guide book on the canal and ports of call as well as 3 picture books for the grands and great-gran. Sorry, kids, you don’t get anything …. At least not yet. You can tell that the ship caters to older adults – there were tons of items for grandkids!
The strong winds have resulted in the outer decks being closed so we didn’t walk. Hopefully the winds will abate this evening. If not, we’ll hit the gym (before 9pm!!)
At 1pm we arrive in Aruba. Our submarine excursion is scheduled for 2pm. So…. more later!
Later
Getting off the ship was something else. We arrived in port a little late and then had to wait to be cleared. Of course by that time, everyone who was going ashore was crammed into spaces on
Deck A (below deck 1).
Exiting the ship, we passed into the terminal where we met our excursion. We walked to the Sub Seeker, a vessel that carried us out to the sub. The sub dove to over 140 feet and allowed us to view coral, sunken ships, and tons of fish. One passenger remarked that it was like being submerged in an aquarium!
After we left the boat, we walked through the main street which boasts more jewelry stores than I have ever seen in one place! Not being interested in purchasing any diamonds, we headed back to the ship, arriving about 5pm.
Tonight there was a barbeque on the stern – steak, chicken, salmon, corn, potatoes, grilled vegetables, salads. Unfortunately the wind made it impossible to eat outside so we served our plates and headed in. After supper Moneyball with Brad Pitt was shown in the Vista lounge. Not a movie I would have chosen but we did enjoy it. Back to the room at 10. Tomorrow Ralph has a fishing excursion scheduled.
