Saturday 25th February 2012 This morning we departed from the island, caught the ferry back to the main island and then a bus journey approximately 6 hours to Paraty. We arrived in at 3pm checked into our hostel and went out for some lunch. I realised I had left my glasses on the bus but luckily only a cheap pair and my ray bans are safely at home still. South America seem to have an extremely slow service when it comes to ordering and receiving your meal and drinks. After about 3 hours, no exaggeration we went for a walk about the town then a nap. It is a very pretty town. Pirate town with cobbled streets which are extremely hard to walk on, well more like large stones and rocks embedded reasonably even on the ground. The windows and door frames on all the buildings are coloured in a tasteful way. There is a small river which runs through it. Very pretty place. The town comes alive at night with restaurants opening up onto the cobbled streets and people playing live music. Craft markets take up the remaining free space along the streets and river side. The atmosphere was pleasant and fun. We went to bed fairly early as booked a boat ride around the islands for tomorrow.
Sunday 26th February 2012 Today I woke early, up and dressed ready for our boat ride to find out there was a time change and I could have had an extra hour in bed. Not sure how I missed this vital piece of information. Detrimental to the sleep deprived traveller! Anyhow, breakfast cheered me up especially the chocolate cake, I still cant get over the ham and cheese sandwiches and chocolate cake for breakfast but guess its the norm for here. We found our boat and it was pretty packed with people, little worrying to begin with but once we set off it was great. We snorkeled by 2 islands and spent some time sunbathing on 2 other islands. It was so much fun and I was pleased once again with myself for getting into the sea and snorkeling. Practice makes perfect and easier each time. The day was great fun and I definitely managed to even out my tan a little bit. We got back to the hostel at 4.30pm and I fell asleep for an hour, was exhausted. We met up with everyone else at 8pm and a few of us headed out for dinner then onto the beach for our last night. We played a drinking game and sat chatting for hours. By 4am we headed back and I stayed out with Ricky and Richard finishing off the bottle of drink mixed with strawberry yogurt as this was all we could find for a mixer! It tasted much better though, the drink was like paint stripper. In fact it was what the nurse used to clean my arm with before injection, pure alcohol stripping out my insides, great! Well we made it through for sunrise and finished our last bit at 7am ready for the others to arise and get breakfast. Yummy chocolate cake on the menu. I am not sure if I have every been drunk at 7am in the morning still and unfortunate for the others they were awaken by my laugh!!! We packed our bags and got on the bus for the next 6 hours to Sao Paulo where we waited for 2 hours before transferring onto a new bus for the night. The journey was 16 hours and pretty uncomfortable. We made it through and arrived into the town of Falls DE Iguassu.
