Tranquillity. We have been taking life easy for the past couple of weeks. We spend most of our time sleeping, reading, playing cards, watching TV, sipping ice tea and going for walks on the beach and around town.
Haven’t seen rain since we left the mainland almost two weeks ago.
Caye Caulker is a sleepy little island. Most people walk to wherever they want to go. There is no need for a vehicle unless you want to carry something too big to handle. Aside from walking, going by golf cart is the main means of transportation. Today we saw a golf cart being driven by a small child. The police came along, also in a golf cart, and told the adult to drive. No ticket or anything like that. It was probably the biggest crime of the day.
How peaceful is it? Well today I saw a Great Egret walking in one of the main streets. I have seen many of these birds but it is the first time I have ever seen one in the centre of a town, walking down the street. At first I thought that perhaps it could not fly, but it eventually flew away.
