After a very good nights sleep in a air conditioned room and a soft bed, we spent our day in Alice getting ready for our 23 hour bus journey to Darwin. We had a bit of a wonder around the town and stocked up on supplies before spending much of the day by the pool.
At 7pm we made our way to the bus, which would be our accommodation. Luckily it was not too busy and we were able to spread out and get some sleep. Murray our driver told a few stories about some of the places we were stopping. One of the places was just down the road from where a backpacker couple disappeared a few years ago. She escaped and hid in the outback before being found, but her boyfriend's body was never found. The local barman said that he reckons he was never found because of the amount of lime deposits in the area and he simply rotted away with no trace due to the lime concentrations. The bar itself was very strange. Lots of photos and $5 notes with comments from travelers from all around the world. Some of them were very old.
At 3am we were in Tennants Creek watching a group of Aboriginals mucking around in the street. Murray said this is a quiet night, they are normally fighting all around the bus station!!
After that we slept through the night until we changed drivers.
