The day after the Amazon tour which was 3 nights, 4 days we stayed the night at our hotel in Quito, la Vieja Cuba. It is a very quirky style of a hotel with cross between Italian, French and Spanish feel. On the 14th January we were picked up by the guide and taken for a tour round Quito. The New town is not very pretty, a concrete jungle really. We visited the Equator line which was fun and learnt a bit more on Ecuadorian people. There are many different communities of Indigenous people and they all dress slightly differently to distinguish them selves. Learnt about the way of life, the government and how the city is changing and strongly linked to the USA. After here we drove down to the Old town of Quito and had a walk on the cobbled streets. It was a pretty town. Quite rich and very religious. Ecuador people are extremely religious, mainly catholic. There are many churches in Quito and areas of pray for in front of the Virgin Mary. We went to a couple of the cathedrals. These were just incredible. The detail, colours and stories of the paintings were fabulous. Very rich inside and beautiful. We also tried an Ecuadorian snack of corn, mashed with plantain and cheese. Very bland and dry to taste. Again it was an interesting day and our guide was very informative.
