Pedro Menendez beat us here to St. Augustine by 447 years. He landed here from Spain in 1565 making it the oldest settlement in North America. Then Sir Francis Drake came from England and burnt the settlement down. (I must of been awake that day in grade school because I remember Sir Francis Drake do that!) SO, Spain built this massive stone fort called Castillo de San Marcos for the defense of Florida for Spain. It took 23 years to build and it still stands. What a history lession we got today. We explored the fort, the Colonial Spanish Quarter (the old settlement), the Catherdral, and the St. Augustine Lighthouse. wewww, what a day.....It was GREAT! The perfect way to end our adventurer.

This is our last post. It's been a BLAST! It is time for us to head back home. We will be visiting family in Virginia Beach for a day and back in Lynchburg on Sunday.
