Our trip had a rough start. It started with my computer crashing the day after Christmas. Luckly I had just made a complete backup of the system just before Christmas. Spent all day doing the recovering the system. I had believed that the crash was caused by a disk failure. I then did a complete disk check with some intensive utilities I had. The system passed the first 7 test and failed the 8th. The message was the drive is at risk of failure shortly. A quick trip to the Micro Center provided a new drive and another day of recovery, all is well.

We got an offer from Sirius that Sue got them to honor on the truck on New Year’s Eve. I went out to the truck to make sure every was ok. Guess what. The truck would not start. I guess that is what I should expect from 7 year old batteries. A quick trip on Saturday afternoon got the new batteries. Thanks to Sirius we were back on schedule.

Checking the weather we decided to leave on Sunday. We hit the road around 9:30 a.m. hoping to be south before the precipitation started. Only a few minor showers and some wind managed to affect us on our westward trek across I70. Just before St. Louis we headed south on Rt. 57 and stopped for the night near Effingham, IL.

The weather gods were looking favorably upon us and we continued our journey south onto Rt. 57 and spent the night just west of Memphis, Tennessee. Although it was windy, we had blue skies and sunshine all day. At night the temperature dropped to 28 degrees but the Silver Burrito kept us warm and toasty.

It was a short day for driving as we planned to meet up with our friends, Dave and Susi, at Hot Springs National Park in Little Rock, AR. We spent the afternoon exploring the famed “Bath House Row” and took the scenic drive up Hot Springs Mountain. Local people come armed with containers to fill with the spring water which is supposed to make the best coffee ever.
