The temperature has gradually been getting hotter and hotter the past few days up to the high 30'sC today. On New Year's eve when we set off to catch the train for the city centre for our eve meal oput with friends at 4pm it was 35C and like walking into an oven whenever you stepped out of the shade. Fortunately most of the 10min walk to the train was in shade and after a 50min train journey the temperature was beginning to drop.

We had a fabulous Chinese 5 course Banquet in a restaurant in the dockland area and then watched the fireworks from a ship in the dock to let the New Year in. It was lovely to meet some of Katie and ANdy's new friends(Bob and Carolin "the washing machune couple!" and Jodie and by the time we reached home it was 1am and getting quite a pleasant temperature!

New Year's day we went to a horse racing meet about 1hour away in the Macedon hilss at Hanging rocks and met more of their friends. It was again very hot and unfortunately after one race the meet had to be abandonned because of a problem with the track but it was still a good day and we saw more of the area rather than sitting baking in the sun watching horse go round and round!
