Biking in Rio Bentsen
Dec 28, 2011
|We had an adventure planned for today, so I was concerned when Marilyn told me she didn’t feel well this morning, as we shared our usual coffee.
She fixed something to eat and began to feel better and assured me that she was better as the departure time neared.
I moved the four bikes around getting ready to load them into the bed of the truck. Trent walked over to help me and we removed the truck bed topper, allowing more room for the bikes.
Trent and I then loaded the four bicycles.
Our lovely spouses had packed a picnic lunch and we were soon on our way west to Bentsen Palms RV Park where we met Jim & Linda, along with two of their friends, Annie and Scotty.
After some time to visit we all climbed on our bikes, or trikes in the case of Jim, Linda, Annie and Scotty.
We rode as a group over to Rio Bentsen State Park, chatting all the way.
After presenting the park passes we were all given wrist bands and allowed to proceed into the park.
We rode around, stopping at the bird feeding stations, where we saw Chachalacas and the Green Jay. One animal we had expected to see was the Javelina, but we were told that they moved out of the park after the flooding a year or so ago.
We parked at one spot to allow all but Marilyn & I to walk to the “Hawk Overlook” which is an elevated boardwalk ending at treetop level, where people can watch for the numerous hawks in the area.
We all rode to a picnic area where all but Annie & Scotty stopped to share a picnic lunch together. Annie & Scotty chose to ride on to their motor home and invited all of us to come over when we returned to the park.
We lingered over our lunch, enjoying the company, the conversation and the awesome weather.
Once we finished lunch and packed the trash away, we rode back to Bentsen Palms and on down to the Scott’s to continue our visit with these good folks.
Reluctantly we said “So Long” to our friends, with hugs and plans for another get-together soon, and drove back to our home resort in Mercedes.
After we unloaded the bikes we took a short time to refresh ourselves and the rode with Trent & Teresa over to the BBQ place known as “Fat Daddy’s”.
All four of us chose the Baby Back Ribs and had a fine meal.
We have sure enjoyed showing Trent & Teresa around here in the RGV, but our clothing seems to be shrinking because of so much eating out.
Oh well, we know for sure that Life is Good!
