From Home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia …

Tuesday, December 27, 2011

It seems weird that it’s only two days after Christmas. Charlie and I have been so busy and gotten so much done since then in preparation for our move south.

Before noon on Monday we had taken down the tree and packed away all the decorations both inside and outside. Amazing what you can do when you set your mind to it!

We had the oil changed in the car, picked up prescriptions, and worked on packing up things to take on our trip.

Today (Tuesday), we were up early again. I went along with Charlie to get his hair cut. Then we went to the bank, and I stopped by Chara’s office to drop off a pair of earrings to her and give her one more hug goodbye. It will be a long time until April, and I will really miss her. I guess that’s the one negative about spending the winter in Florida.

After a couple more stops, we returned home around noon and resumed packing up the truck and the car. It's a good thing we are taking two vehicles because my craft supplies almost took the entire trunk of my Honda. At this point, I’m growing tired of packing and am just ready to get on the road. Not a very patient person, I guess. Either that, or I’m just so excited to begin our next adventure.

Tonight Mom and Dad are taking us out to a very nice restaurant for dinner. So we will get to enjoy one more fun family time, and we really appreciate their hospitality. : )

Our friends Luke and Bobbie also headed out today. They are on their way to get their sailboat ready to sail south. We wish them safe travels today as well. Their plan is to sail all the way to the Virgin Islands this winter, so unless we can meet up with them in Florida, we likely won’t see them again until next summer.

It has rained all day today, so I am glad we are not traveling until tomorrow. We will have three consecutive travel days, and it will be good to get to our final destination on Friday. But before that, we are really looking forward to visiting Charlie’s sister Chris and her husband Walt on the way.

I have been thinking about how great it is to have something to look forward to, such as our trip ... something to be excited about. Charlie and I are like two kids when we talk about our upcoming travels. I guess that's why we don't spend a lot of money on each other at Christmas. Being able to travel and live somewhere different for part of the year is our gift to each other.

Tomorrow … On the Road Again!
