Ellen's Brazilian Adventure travel blog

Hi All,

So with a week left of my travels I decided I should spend some time in a couple of the famous Brazilian cities. I left Morro de Sao Paulo yesterday morning and arrived back in Salvador.

After checking in to my hostel I went for a walk to the Pelourinho (Pelo), the historic centre of Salvador and a UNESCO Heritage site since 1985. The Pelo is made up of plenty of historic buildings and colonial architecture and old cobbled streets. Yesterday evening I met a Scottish girl called Christine and after dinner we went for a walk to see some performances on a few temporary stages set up around the Pelo. The first one had 12 singers dressed in blue and were actually quite good. The second group on a stage further up were slightly less impressive.

This morning I decided to visit some of the churches around the Pelo... and got caught in a massive rain storm... after hiding in a shop for about 20 minutes and eventually managing to buy a poncho I ventured out into the streets (which by this time were more like rivers). The churches themselves were really pretty both inside and out and had loads of statues.

It then started raining again so I ended up coming back to the hostel to dry off...

Take care,

Ellen xxx
