Canadian Rockies to The Great Lakes & Beyond travel blog

The wind howled all night long. We got going early and were on the road west by 7:30 a.m. I'm generally not even up at that ghastly hour of the morning....but, the winds were forecast to be at their lightest in the morning. Even so, they were still blowing close to 20 mph sustained and gusts even higher than that.

We topped off our fuel in Tucumcarri since we're getting very poor fuel economy, fighting the winds and elevation gain. So, after a 160 mile day, we called it quits at Santa Rosa and checked in at the campground to relax for the afternoon. Joe has a few chores to do and I'm still catching up after my trip to Ireland. The winds should die down a little tomorrow and we hope to make it to Las Cruces.
