Hi Everyone!!
This morning we woke up to a beautiful sunny day, we had a delicious pancake, fruit and regional fruit juice breakfast in the Hotel. Sven, the sheepie, decided he wanted to get in touch with his peeps and dive bombed some real sheep. Jen W had to jump in and save the litte guy. Lets just say, our day started out on a fun and positive note.
After the suicide attempt, we headed off to Octavalo market and bought lots of goodies, haggled a bit and got some good deals! We stopped in a little town where we were taught about the regional musical instruments and got to listen to the most famous folk singer and his family play a song for us at his house. It was so neat!
Afterwards, we went to Cotacachi where leather is really cheap because they specialize in it and had lunch with some other members of the tour group. Jen M got quite courageous today and had some fried beatles in the market seasoned with garlic, cumin, paprika and onion. At the Restaurant she got Cuy, which is GUINEA PIG!!! It came whole. YES...whole. That means it still had it's teeth, head and little claws! EWWWWWW! We took some great photos and sent it back to have the "appendages" removed so it wouldn't be so weird to eat! It was interesting, DOESN'T TASTE LIKE CHICKEN!!! She stuck to a local dish which was hominey, corn kernels, tomatoes, potatoes, and pork. Soooo good!!!
Later, we got back on our tour bus and took a 3 hour drive to Papallacta where we will be staying tonight before heading to the Amazon rainforest for two days. This is a really nice resort, not at all what we were expecting! It is called Termas de Papallacta. We have 3 hot springs right outside our front door of our cabin, a bar and restaurant and of course as you can see internet! Hooray!!
Some highlight pics are being uploaded to Facebook and we'll try to put some on this site as well. We love you all and miss you tons!!!!!
