Laughlin, NV and Lake Pleasant, AZ
Nov 13, 2011
|We spent last weekend (11/4 - 6) in Laughlin, NV. Laughlin is a small town on the Colorado River with several casinos. From Laughlin we took a couple motorcycle rides around the Nevada, California and Arizona Tri State area.
Saturday we rode south into California then crossed into Parker, Arizona. We then went back north making a stop in Lake Havasu City for lunch at In and Out Burger...one of our favorite fast food restaurants on the west coast. From there we continued up to Bullhead City, AZ which is directly across the Colorado River from Laughlin. Today's ride was around 250 miles.
Sunday we took a short ride up to Oatman, AZ, an old mining/ghost Town along historic Route 66 in the Black Mountains of northern Arizona. The ride leaving Oatman on Rte 66 in very hilly and full of tight curves for about 10 miles.....I had so much fun on this section of road, we turned around and went back across it....GREAT motorcycle road!
Monday morning we left Laughlin headed for Pleasant Harbor RV Resort in Peoria, AZ. We have spent the past week sight seeing and visiting family and friends in the area.
Tuesday we spent the day with Debbie's Uncle Herb and Aunt Dolly Thistle. They recently moved to Wickenburg, AZ about a half hour ride from where we stayed. They took us to lunch at the Town's Community Center then showed us around the Town of Wickenburg. Later on the four of us took a ride up and over the Weaver Mountains to the Town of Kirkland for dinner, unfortunately the restaurant of choice was closed....so we continued on and ended up having a nice dinner in Prescott, AZ.
Wednesday we stayed close to the campground and took a short ride around the area. Later on in the day we met up with one of Steve's former supervisors Roger Mailhiot and his wife Jeanine who spend the winter here at Pleasant Harbor.
Thursday was another day with Dolly and Herb...this time we took a days motorcycle ride back out to Prescott up and over two mountains and several miles of more GREAT motorcycle roads. When we left Wickenburg it was around 70 degrees...after climbing to around 6000 feet with snow along the sides of the road...when we reached Prescott it was down to 50. A tad chilly. Another great day with family.
Friday after spending the day relaxing in the park. Friday night we went to the Cave Creek Tap Haus in nearby Cave Creek, AZ, to see one of Steve's high school friends, Vinny Damaio, a drummer in a band. We spent the evening with his wife Stacey, another high school friend of Steve's, watching a great 3 man band perform.
Saturday we spent with Vinny and Stacey at their home in Glendale. It was great to spend time with them along with their new puppy Buddy and two kittens Duke and Daisy.
Today we hung out at the park and watched the NASCAR race and Patriots game.
We REALLY like this part of Arizona. We are on about 20 miles from Phoenix in a rural area of the State, but within 20 minutes everything you need is available. This may be a place to spend future winters....time will tell.
Tomorrow we will be leaving here and headed to Tucson, AZ for a week.
