| Arrival in Bilbao is like arriving in a completely different temperature zone. Sunny days, short sleeves and very mild nights with no need for the heavy jackets we have been using of late. It was a very nice change. Our accomodation in Bilbao is an apartment which will also be a nice change. We will be able to have our own schedule and do what we like- it is very hard getting to breakfast by 1030 each day, now we will be able to sleep til noon and start the day like the Spanish do. I am not sure how we are going to go back to work.... but that is a long time off so let´s forget about that for the time being..... Our first day was spent exploring the Guggenheim. This is an amazing place with some really modern, trippy artwork. Our tour was about 5 hours but well worth it. We had defintely worked up an appetite by the time we had finished but unfotunately it was siesta time so there was not much happening.....we found a small tapas selection and some Sidra and had a quick bite before heading back to the apartment for a well deserved break before our diner reservation at 9pm!!! Eating at 9pm is really too early in the true spanish lifestyle. The restuarants are barren and no one really starts arriving until 1030pm when it really starts to hot up. By this time Cam and i are not in the mood for eating and are leaving the restuarant on our way back to the hotel. We are not quite sure how the spanish continually do it and are not all obese. The diet is very carb laden and heavy which is so different to how we eat...we will need to diet when we get home..... Pintxos is the main way of eating which Cam has become very fond of - watch out Greg, Cam is going to make you his favorite pintxos´s when we get home.......I myself am enjoying it but fine the bread a bit too much expecially late at night. Tomorrow is another day for expoloring and seeing this great city before we head to San Sebastian for pintxos heaven and a pintxos crawl..... |
