Marjorie, What a Lovely Name

Virginia Beach, VA

Headed To Norfolk

Windy!

Green Acres Campground

“How long does it take us to divert from our itinerary?” The answer is, “Not long!”

After breakfast, we talk on the phone to Vicki. She and Larry will be heading south soon. It does not look like our paths will cross but we will see.

Next, we talk to Marjorie. Marjorie used to live in Absecon. She now lives in Texas. John saw on Facebook that she has been in Virginia Beach this week. Virginia Beach? That is on our way south. She is leaving the hotel at twelve o’clock to catch a flight home. We arrive at her hotel at ten-thirty.

For an hour and a half, we talk non-stop. There is so much catching up to do. At twelve, she leaves for the airport. We head on south.

Once we get away from Norfolk, we are on Route 17. We love this route. John points out the Dismal Swamp and the Intercoastal Canal. He recognizes the names of all the rivers we cross from having traveled this way by boat. By three-thirty, we are ready to call it quits.

When you pull into a KOA or state park, you know what to expect. We pull into a private campground. The road is narrow and muddy. “John, what do you think?” “I think it’s too late to change our mind.” We wind around the pond.

Although a little rustic, we have hit a homerun. The owner is friendly. We have WIFI. Our site is high and dry. Our site overlooks a pond. If it stops raining, John may fish in the morning.
