Raton, New Mexico - The second day (I Think!) <<<< Nancy says he seldom thinks!

We are in the upper most corner of North-East New Mexico. We found a cool little RV Park high on a hill, and we know we will extend our stay here. We had a good nights sleep, and we will drive into Raton for a visit to the Visitors Center, a bite of breakfast, and a trip to see something! We will decide once we (Nancy), collects everthing not nailed down at the visitors center, and we will look at all the 'stuff to do' over breakfast. Off we go!

We decided to visit Sugarite State Park. Sugarite is a mineral that was once mined where the park now stands. This past July, a huge fire swept thru parts of Raton, including the State Park. You can drive through the park now, but all activities such as boating and camping have been suspended until the vegetation recovers. The fire exposed many rock formations in the hills we otherwise wouldn't have seen, so the drive was still very beautiful even though many trees had died.
