Hi, it's Wednesday already!
Today I will tell u a little about the interesting apartments we are now living at. Sanctuary Guest Suites comprise of two long, skinny buildings of 6 floors with no lifts. The hand railings are made of curved wrought iron and the stairs are marble slabs! Our apartment was originally one long room, 4m at the widest section. The end section of the room has been separated using glass doors to accommodate a double bed and wardrobe.
My (and Gillian's) double bed, the sofa which is also Sue's bed, and the small glass table n 3 chairs fill the next section. The room then narrows into the kitchenette and front door with a bathroom at the opposite end of the room. It's almost a matter of sucking in yr tummy and standing sideways to pass and don't use the lid of the loo as a shelf - there isn't a lid! These are not serviced apartments, when we need a change of linen, we take what we have next door and the wonderfully friendly staff provide us with a new set. There is a continental breakfast in the community breakfast room and their coffee beats the bitter brew at Starbucks! It's cozy, but triathlon travel has taught me to live in shared accommodation within the space of a shoebox! I love it! X
I didn't realise when I booked, SGS is part of an interfaith, non-profit organisation committed to spiritual consciousness and service to the community. It provides the homeless with fresh, home-cooked meals throughout the week at a nearby park, together with clothes, retreats and seminars.
Today we joined organisers at the park and served about 80 people with juice, a spinach, cashew nut and tomato pasta; mixed salad with lettuce, tomatoes, capsicum and banana and raisin cake ... with frosting! Wonderful food and so appreciated by the people. For many this would be their only meal for the day.
Till next time ..... H xxxxx
